Ramadhan is here, Syawal is Welcome

Assalamualaikum and good day,

Wow, it's been ages since I wrote anything here. Now, it's already September near to the end of the school's term. So, I'm hoping that my students are preparing themselves for their final year examination! This is important because it will determine your class next year.

Obviously the teachers will be busy too. There's nothing different whether it's the month of Ramadhan or any other months. Works are still on...Fasting should makes us more productive especially when all the devils are gone. Rite? Anyway, we grown ups have to work harder cause we have to think of our family too. During Ramadhan, I'm sure all of us (especially you kids) will constantly reminding ourselves for 'Hari Raya Aidilfitri'. We have to prepare for Syawal which is real soon. Hope that you kids will be fasting because you know the saying "Tak puasa penuh, mana dapat duit raya!" And please, it's not just about fasting to get 'duit raya', it is also about doing good, praying, tadarus and many more which hope to be continued although Ramadhan is over.

In the next post, I'll update what happened to me in these few months and waht other activities that my school is having.
Till then, happy reading!

Apologizing for late blogging

Hi everyone,

Seems that I was not updating the blog regularly. Sorry about that.
For the moment, most of my class has started Fraction. Very interesting indeed. Although they are now in Year 4 and 5, I found that their concept in Fraction was not strong enough. For Year 4 they'll learning on Equivalent Fraction, Adding and Subtracting Proper Fraction. Pupils were needed to do many activities in groups including making their own Fraction Strips. Once they did the fraction strips, it can be used to teach comparing the value, adding and subtracting fraction as well. The remedial pupils need to be reminded on what they have learnt in Year 3. It seems majority of the slow learners were not able to recall what they have learnt in Year 3 (though it was only basic). Therefore, they had to do many activities on recalling the say, name and write fractions as well as drawing in identifying a particular fractions.
For my pupils in Year 5, they are now introduced with improper fraction and mixed number fraction. It took a while though to get them recall what they have learnt in Year 4 which is the proper fraction. Converting improper to mixed number fraction and vice versa was not as hassle as subtracting mixed number fraction. I found that they really need to master in converting the improper fraction to mixed number fraction first before learning to add and subtract. However between adding and subtracting, subtracting was the most difficult. I provides them to learn on many ways on how to solve problems that involve subtracting mixed number fractions and hope for the best that these will gives them the freedom of selecting the best suitable method (correct method of course). Multiplication of proper fraction with a whole number was a lot easier for them once they have master the addition and subtraction of fraction.
Once Fraction complete, Decimal will be their new topic which will be soon enough...

Happy decimaling...

4 Cananga Maths Project

Congratulations to all...

Below are some of the successful projects that have been done by the 4 Cananga pupils. The project is basically a reflection on the earlier topic of Whole Number and presented in Microsoft PowerPoint Slides Presentation. It is actually a group project although some of the group submitted 2 projects. These are some of the projects for sharing....enjoy...

Mathematics Year 4 Cananga

Hi all...

It seems that we have finished learning Chapter 1 about WHOLE NUMBERS...

Hooray!

Now it's time for you to finished the exercises in the workbook : Spot A Mathematics (A) for Whole Number Chapter...Do complete it so that we can discuss in the next class before entering the new chapter....

Here are some tips, let me guide you on how to use lattice multiplication method...

Ensure that you put the pairs of numbers correctly to determine the number of columns and rows. Notice that there are diagonal lines..Multiply each number and put inside the box. If the product is only one digit number 0 x 2 = 0, then put:

If the product is two-digits number, 3 x 4 = 12, then put:

After all the boxes completed, then add the numbers according to the diagonal lines...just like below...To get the answers, arrange the numbers accordingly...Very easy as a piece of cake...Good Luck...
