Happy New Year 2011

It's 2011 and it's busy time especially in the beginning of the year. So many preparation need to be made. This year I'll be teaching Maths Year 4 and Year 5, art for Year 2 as well as tasmik (al-quran readings). For this year, I'll be class teacher for Year 5 Cekal. At first, I am truly surprised for being appointed as a class teacher but I'll accept this as a challenge. I was not keen on decorating the class at first, but when I went to the class last friday........hohoho..it NEED to be done..The class is really WITHOUT any decorations..Therefore my first project will be

The SEA project..that will be my class theme for this year..............everything about the sea, beaches, sand castle..etc..bla..bla..Well these are some preparations that I've made..Obviously, I need a lot of help from my students...I believe that a class decorations is not just a decorations that is prepared by the class teacher..it needs to be decorated by the whole class TEAM..I'm sorry that I did not asks the my students idea for the theme though :) However, I really do hope they do like the theme! I've got the idea from another teacher's blog, Heidi @http://heididavenport.blogspot.com..

Here are some of the pics..it's still in progress though..I've used the 'anyaman' idea to make my sea creatures..I was amazed when I look into the pics.. :) More to go!

Some of the slow progress that i've made so far ...

I must say it looks more like in an aquarium..do comments here for future improvements.

LINUX Experience

From 20th until 22nd, I was involved in a training at Open Source Competency Centre in Cyberjaya. This is actually my first hands-on experience in Linux. It's actually not my kind of thing though, but well there's always something that you need to learn. The training is just an introduction to Linux. I learnt a lot of commands and trainers were very patience in spending their 3 days with us.

The participants were about 20 of us and many of us were not familiar with Linux. How I wished my hubby sitting just beside me because, he'll be zero clueless than me. My favourite commands,

  • whoami
  • cal
  • finger user1
  • yum
  • cat
  • grep

I do hope I can applied this later and remember the basic commands at least.
p/s: In this course we're using CentOS

Education Innovation Fest 2010

On the 10th to 14th Oct, I was invited to participate in Education Innovation Fest which is a part of a program in MSC Malaysia Summit 2010 that was held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. Thank you to MDec, BTP as well as my school for giving me this opportunitty. As a toddler in education industry, this was really a great platform for me to learn from other best practices in education be it in Malaysia (as 'hulu' as in Hulu Terengganu) or international such as from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Ireland, South Korea, Thailand and other countries.

This fest is more about sharing knowledge and experiences about how practitioners implementing the ICT initiative in schools. Honestly, everyone understand each other struggles' as they too having the similar (but not the same though) journey too. I am not ALONE, and you too are not alone. I agree that ICT is a great tool in education in order for our next generation survival. A perspective of Excellent Academic Result must be shift to prepare the children to a world that requires Survival of the Fittest. The best example that I can think of right now is Bill Gates. He's a college drop out. But yet, he is one of the richest man by just having Microsoft. It's difficult to change mind set of everyone, but let's just start within ourself first. I don't mind taking baby steps as long as we are walking forward. To where I'm teaching now, although it's an urban school there are still many challenges that I need to overcome. I'm sure for those in rural location it will be much more tougher, rite???..Well, just don't give up. Take it one baby step at a time and I'm sure we'll be reaching eventually. Best of luck for everyone. For me, I really hope I can contribute to my country and make it a better place for the next generation.

p/s: Oops, actually I was one of the speaker in Colloquium 3..I was really nervous and the Hall 3 is really BiG..Btw, thank you to Dashen the Photographer for great snapping!
